Dating a pocket watch

Many have gone out of business, while others destroyed records to save space.
The reason: There have been a lot of watch manufacturing companies that have come and gone over the years.While it is open, make sure you record everything written on the movement of the watch and the watch case. Kent Singer has written up a good explanation of how to open a watch case.Chris Ozdoba has also written up a good explanation of how to open a watch case.The original Waltham database is maintained by the NAWCC but the most comprehensive site I have found is The Pocket Watch database.Are more problematic, of the makes I regularly deal with, Omega have published the dates that each million watches were produced so by interpellation the production date can be determined within a year or two.
